TODAY BAPTISM
OF THE LORD: In
the 25th or 28th year, John, a preacher of penance, appeared in the Jordan
valley which was not too far from old Jericho.
People from all different areas hurried to listen to him. John grew up
in the desert doing penance. Now he
raised his voice powerfully, calling all people to do penance and to
conversion. He stood up fearlessly
against half-heartedness and false piety.
He told them that God was not pleased with their prayers and sacrifices
because their hearts were hard and uncircumcised. He asked them unconditionally for a change of heart and life, and
radical conversion, because the Lord is near.
His words were hitting his audience like a lightning bolt, and many
repented and asked to be baptized in order to receive forgiveness for their
sins and evil doings. Those who
repented bowed down their heads and John poured water over them. They had faith
that the Savior would come into their hearts and they would be forgiven for
their sins. Then, one day the Teacher
of Nazareth appeared. John the Baptizer
tried in vain to refuse to baptize him because he knew who this person
was. When Jesus asked unconditionally
for baptism, John did his part…he baptized Jesus. The voice of His Heavenly Father was heard: “This is my beloved
Son on whom my favor rests.” This is
the Heavenly Father’s testimony that Jesus has a unique mission: the salvation
and redemption of all human race.

DANAS
«Gospodin blizu». Poput munje njegova
pred njim nalazi. No kad je to Isus
bezuvjetno tražio, Ivan je učinio svoje: krstio je Isusa. Kad je Isus umirao, sunce je pomrčalo i
tama se spustila na zemlju. A sada dok
otkupljenje roda ljudskoga.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: What Our Heavenly Father
said to Jesus in today's Gospel, «You are my beloved. My favor rests on you» is said to each of us. We don't earn this love; it is given
freely. The unconditional love we
experience in our families is sacramental, for it gives us a glimpse of God's
freely given, all accepting, love.
G O S P E L G R A M
Have faith in God... and doubt not... (Mk 11:22; Mt 21:21)
Like an unborn baby, the thing that we often hope to
receive from God is unseen at the beginning.
As an expectant mother, we must continuously live in expectancy –
waiting patiently, with hope, for our time of delivery. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that «faith is the
substance of things hoped for (and) the
evidence of things not seen.» Faith is
hoping to receive, from Jehovah God, that which we cannot see and expecting to
get it. Thus faith is a combination of
hope and expectation. «Jesus... said... If ye have faith, and doubt not... all
things, whatsover ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive» (Mt
21:21,22) for «all things are possible to
him that believeth» (Mk 9:23).
Therefore, as an expectant mother, never lose hope and doubt. Live continuously in expectation of a
miracle.
